Weavers' Knot 2025

The Weavers’ Knot, which was initiated by our late trustee Alison Morton, was held this year on 26th March at Braintree Museum and the nearby Warner Textile Archive. The event is an opportunity for weavers who have been awarded grants from the Trust to meet one another and enjoy a venue that has links to Theo Moorman in some way. Theo worked as a designer for Warners for five years in the 1930s where she was able to test the use of various new fibres in her designs for furnishing fabrics.

On the arranged date, fourteen awardees and the three trustees met at the Museum where they were given an introduction to the textile collection. This was followed after lunch by a viewing of the archive, which is stored in one of the nearby renovated mill sheds, where textiles mainly from the late 1930s and 1940s were specially laid out for the group. Returning to the museum for tea, the participants then updated all of us on how their weaving practice is progressing. It proved to be a most informative and enjoyable day and the hospitality provided by the Museum and Archive was greatly appreciated.
